Skin Biopsies

A skin biopsy removes a small sample of skin so it can be examined under the microscope. It is the definitive way to diagnose skin cancer, and it is equally valuable for rashes and inflammatory conditions that do not have a clear clinical diagnosis.

The area is numbed with local anesthetic, and the technique — shave, punch, or excisional — is chosen based on what we need to learn. The procedure takes only minutes, and we review the pathology results with you as soon as they return.
