Chemical Peels
Chemical peels at Avarbock Chamorro Dermatology are performed personally by Dr. Chamorro. Peels are a safe, effective, and customizable treatment that uses a specialized solution to gently exfoliate the skin and stimulate healthy skin renewal. By removing damaged outer layers of skin, chemical peels can improve skin tone and texture while revealing a brighter, smoother, and more radiant complexion.
What a peel can do for your skin
Chemical peels are commonly used to treat sun damage, uneven pigmentation, melasma, acne, acne scars, fine lines, rough texture, enlarged pores, and dull skin. They can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, and other areas affected by sun exposure.
Brighter, more even complexion
Helps fade unwanted pigmentation, including sun spots, post-inflammatory discoloration, and melasma, for a more uniform skin tone.
Refined skin texture
Gently exfoliates damaged surface cells to smooth roughness, minimize the appearance of pores, and restore a healthy-looking glow.
Clearer, healthier-looking skin
Helps unclog pores, reduce acne breakouts, and improve the lingering discoloration that can follow blemishes.
Softer appearance of fine lines
Encourages skin renewal and supports collagen production, helping skin appear smoother, firmer, and more youthful.
Sun damage repair
Can address visible signs of cumulative sun exposure, including uneven pigmentation and texture changes on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
Enhanced skincare absorption
By removing the buildup of dead surface cells, chemical peels can help your skincare products penetrate more effectively and perform at their best.
A peel chosen for your skin
Because every patient's skin is unique, we offer a variety of superficial, medium-depth, and specialized peels that are carefully selected based on your skin type, concerns, goals, and lifestyle. Most patients benefit from a series of treatments combined with a personalized skincare regimen to achieve and maintain optimal results.
What to expect, day by day
Following treatment, it is normal to experience mild redness, tightness, dryness, and peeling for several days, depending on the type and depth of the peel. During the healing process, healthy new skin emerges with improved clarity, texture, and radiance.
Day 1
The peel is applied in office in about 15 minutes. Skin may feel tight, warm, or slightly flushed afterward.
Days 2–3
Mild peeling typically begins. Skin may look dry or feel rough as the outer layer lifts.
Days 4–6
Peeling continues and resolves. Fresh skin emerges beneath with visibly improved clarity.
Day 7
Peeling is complete. Tone and texture continue to improve over the following weeks.

The Perfect Derma™ Peel
The Perfect Derma™ Peel is a medium-depth, medical-grade chemical peel that is safe and effective for all skin types and ethnicities. Its exclusive formulation provides superior results for aging skin, blemish-prone skin, hyperpigmentation, and other common skin concerns.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Chemical Peels
Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?
Most patients are, including those with sun damage, melasma, acne, acne scarring, uneven tone, or dull texture. During your consultation we review your skin type, history, and current medications to select the safest and most effective peel for you.
How long does the treatment take?
The peel itself is applied in the office and usually takes under 30 minutes, including preparation. Most patients return to their normal schedule immediately afterward.
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe a brief warm or tingling sensation during application that fades within a few minutes.
How much downtime should I plan for?
Light peels involve little to no visible peeling. Medium-depth peels typically cause mild redness and visible flaking for three to five days.
How much will I peel?
Everyone peels differently, and many variables affect the process. Peeling can be heavy, especially if you have significant sun damage, frost heavily during the treatment, or have never had a peel before. In those cases the skin may come off in sheets for two to seven days.
Patients who have peels regularly or use retinoids at home often peel very lightly, since there is less to exfoliate. They may experience only light or barely visible shedding lasting two or three days.
How many treatments will I need?
Many patients see improvement after a single peel, but most patients benefit from a series of three peels, spaced four to six weeks apart, for optimal results.
Can I have a peel if I have darker skin?
Yes. We routinely treat all skin tones and choose peel type and depth specifically to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. The Perfect Derma™ Peel can be safely used on all skin types.
What should I do before and after my peel?
We provide written instructions at your visit. In general, avoid active topical medications, including retinoids and exfoliants, as well as esthetician facial treatments, 5 days prior to your chemical peel. Avoid tanning 2 weeks before and after the peel. Use gentle cleansing, moisturizer, and daily sunscreen while healing. Do not pick or pull peeling skin.
Can a peel be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Chemical peels pair well with other aesthetic treatments such as microneedling, pigment correction and/or resurfacing laser treatments to enhance overall results. However, these procedures are typically performed at separate visits to allow your skin proper time to heal between treatments. Neuromodulators such as Botox can safely be done on the same day as your peel.
