Keloids are raised, firm scars that grow beyond the boundaries of the original injury. They occur most often on the chest, shoulders, earlobes, and jawline, and can be itchy, tender, or cosmetically distressing.

Keloids are treated rather than excised, since surgery alone often makes them recur. Our approach centers on intralesional steroid injections, given in a series over several months to flatten and soften the scar and relieve itching or tenderness. We also review measures you can take at home to keep the scar from thickening further.
