Vitiligo

Vitiligo causes well-defined patches of skin to lose pigment, as the immune system targets pigment-producing cells. It commonly affects the face, hands, and areas around body openings.

It is not contagious or dangerous, but it can be deeply distressing. Repigmentation is possible with topical anti-inflammatory therapy, phototherapy, and newer targeted medications, particularly when treated early.
