Lichen Planus

Lichen planus causes flat-topped, violet-colored, intensely itchy bumps, often on the wrists, ankles, and lower back. It can also affect the mouth, genitals, scalp, and nails.

It is an immune-mediated condition rather than an infection. Treatment is directed at controlling inflammation and itch with topical or oral therapy, and at preventing scarring when the scalp or nails are involved.
