Autoimmune Skin Disease

In autoimmune skin disease the immune system mistakenly targets healthy skin, causing conditions such as cutaneous lupus, dermatomyositis, and morphea. Rashes may be photosensitive, scarring, or associated with internal disease.

Because these conditions can involve organs beyond the skin, evaluation often includes laboratory testing, biopsy, and coordination with rheumatology. Treatment is directed at calming the immune response and preventing permanent damage.
